A content and distribution portal was developed for iWhales to support the long‑term research and education programs of The Oceania Project. The platform brought together observational data, photography, and recorded media into a structured environment that allowed users to explore and engage with the lives of humpback whales and related marine research.
Content was organised around multiple interconnected layers, including individual whale profiles, expedition records, and educational narratives. Each whale was documented through imagery, storytelling, and observational detail, enabling users to move between individual subjects and the broader research context through a consistent system of navigation and content structure.
A media and product layer was integrated to distribute films, recordings, and publications derived from ongoing fieldwork. This linked engagement with the content directly to the support of conservation and education programs, establishing a clear relationship between storytelling, research, and funding.
The interface combined immersive visual presentation with structured access, incorporating catalogue navigation, layered content pages, and supporting interface elements. Expedition material extended this system further, combining composite imagery and animated visual elements to reinforce the relationship between fieldwork and published outcomes.
The work reflects an early systems‑led approach to content, narrative, and distribution, where structured information, visual storytelling, and media access are brought together within a single, coherent framework.
